
The Department for Education’s latest Children in Need census showed there were 252,580 assessments completed by children’s social care services where domestic violence was a contributing factor in 2018/19.
An analysis of the figures by Action for Children said this meant that on average 692 children are considered to be at risk of domestic violence every day. An estimated 611 of these children are thought to be at risk for the first time.
A separate study carried out by the charity and the University of Sterling raised concerns over a lack of local authority support for child victims of domestic abuse across England and Wales.
