ADCS Conference: Ofsted to slim down children's services inspections by 2012

1 min read
Children's services departments are to be inspected on radically fewer measures in future, the director of development and strategy at Ofsted has said.

Speaking at the annual Association of Directors of Children’s Services conference, John Goldup announced that children’s services teams could be judged on as few as four or five key areas from next year.

"The recent consultation on the new schools inspections framework has had strong support for the proposal to reduce the number of judgements to four key areas. This is a trend you are going to see reflected across Ofsted," he said.

"New inspection arrangements for local authority children’s services will replace the current safeguarding and looked-after children and unannounced safeguarding inspections from 2012. We will be publishing detailed proposals for consultation by the end of this month.
