1.2 million young people unemployed

Youth Justice
One in five young people in the UK are unemployed and not in full-time education, according to charity the Prince's Trust.

The number of young people unemployed and not in full-time education now stands at more than 1.2 million, the charity has said.

It warned more than two in five people who became unemployed in the last three months were aged under 25, according to figures from the Office for National Statistics.

In total 25,000 under-25s became unemployed in the three months to June this year.

A spokesman for the Prince’s Trust said: “Youth unemployment costs our economy around £10 million a day in lost productivity. Only by giving young people opportunities to develop new skills and get into work can we secure the economic future of our country.”
