Grants to encourage local groups to collaborate with Community Safety Partnerships to develop creative projects

What is it? The Home Office launched a grant on 31 August to fund local initiatives to tackle community safety problems in England and Wales, with a focus on youth crime.

The Community Action Against Crime Innovation Fund is administered by the Community Development Foundation (CDF) on behalf of the government, and aims to encourage local groups to collaborate with Community Safety Partnerships to develop creative projects.

How much is on offer? £5m will be granted in 2011/12, and a further £5m is set aside for 2012/13.

What will it fund? The fund will cover costs associated with projects developed by grassroots community activists to tackle crime issues that affect people in their area, particularly antisocial behaviour, substance misuse and youth crime. To be eligible, projects must be innovative, deliver lasting benefits and involve local communities.

When is the deadline? Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis until 31 March 2013, so that groups have time to develop their bids.
