Challenger Children's Fund

Financial help for physically disabled young people in Scotland

Funding Around £24,000 is allocated a year. Individual grants can be up to £500.

Funder Administered by Edinburgh-based disability charity ECAS, this fund was founded in 1978 from the sale proceeds of Challenger Lodge, Edinburgh, which is now St Columba's Hospice.

Aim The fund offers small-scale financial help for physically disabled young people in Scotland. It will fund anything that is not provided by statutory sources — so that could mean expenditure such as a washing machine, holiday expenses, clothing, computer hardware or specialised adapted equipment.

Who can apply? Applications can be made on behalf of physically disabled children and young people under the age of 18 and resident in Scotland. Applications need to be sponsored by "a social worker, health visitor or professional who is in regular contact with the family".
