Financial support for sports clubs

What is it? Cash 4 Clubs provides sports clubs with an opportunity to apply for grants. It is funded by Betfair and supported by the charity SportsAid. Since it was established in 2008, it has given out more than £100,000 in grants to 139 community sports clubs across the UK.

How much is on offer? There are three tiers of grants available at £250, £500 and £1,000. Grants are awarded on a discretionary basis. Any sports club can apply as long as they are registered with their sports national governing body or local authority.

What will it fund? The grants can be used to improve facilities, purchase new equipment, fund coaching qualifications or generally invest in the sustainability of the club. Previous grants have paid for rugby kit, training for coaches, an underwater camera for monitoring swimmers’ technique, equipment for a golf club team and a racing wheelchair and other athletics equipment. The fund has an “open policy”, meaning that grants can be used for a variety of purposes. Funding requests are considered from a range of clubs whether they are mainstream or minority sports. The fund generally helps sports clubs that play an active role in the community.
