Enfield's youth funding panel has boosted the confidence of young participants from the London borough, writes Tim Burke.

Enfield is a large and ethnically diverse borough on the outskirts of north London. It has an annual youth opportunity fund allocation of £195,800 and £169,300 for its youth capital fund. All the money is distributed through a panel known as Youth Opportunity Fund Enfield (YOFE).

Who is on the panel? "Initially there was a small panel of about six people," explains Pink Ross, co-ordinator for YOFE. "When the borough's youth support service took on YOFE, and I was appointed to provide full-time support, we were able to grow the panel to the point where it has around 26 members. We advertised an open night and it's slowly evolved since then.
