How did you become a youth worker?

For 18 years I'd been running my own car sales and workshop business. After I sold up I was at a bit of a loose end and did a psychology A level. I enjoyed that and did a counselling diploma. Then the opportunity of a part-time job came up at Havering College working with Year 11s who had been excluded from school. My application was a bit tongue-in-cheek really but I was offered the role.

I was very interested to see how a more informal style of learning at the college seemed to better suit these young people. Part of the deal was that I could also study part-time for an ABC qualification in youth work at the college.
