
Youth work as a career was not something I had considered when growing up. After leaving college at the age of 19, I began volunteering at several London-based charities and organisations that worked alongside young people. These encounters showed me the value of positive adult role models and how youth work focuses on the development of soft skills. W
ithin my first roles, confidence played a big part, and I was always doubting myself with what I was doing. However, support and supervision from some great professional mentors helped me to identify my strengths and areas for development. This massively influenced my decision to go to university to study social work as I was keen to develop my knowledge in legislation and policy that impacts young people.
