Young people have a vested interest in keeping the world in good shape. That's not to say all of them are bothered about the planet. As with all age groups, some will be ignorant of what they can do and some are just not bothered.

The government has recently recognised the importance of harnessing youthful passion for environmental matters by appointing five young climate change champions aged between 11 and 18 to help spread the word about the danger to the planet.

The five young climate change champions will be blogging about their experiences on the site www.footprintfriends.com. The website is aimed at 11- to 18-year-old environmentalists and includes forums, facts and statistics and links to short environmental films.
