Jo Stephenson and Alison Bennett find out about a joint project to prevent knife crime developing in Surrey; a fact-finding mission to Bosnia; a project to turn a derelict space into a wildlife garden; and a coast-to-coast bike ride.

Project: Knives Wreck Lives

Aim: To get young people working together to unify others against knife crime

Funding: Spelthorne Youth Council secured about £3,000 from the youth opportunity fund and Woking Youth Council gained about £3,000 from the Safer Woking Partnership Fund

There's no escaping the issue of knife crime and the damage it causes to young lives. That's why two youth councils in Surrey banded together to launch a campaign to encourage as many people as possible to take a stand against carrying weapons.

The Knives Wreck Lives initiative should see 40,000 distinctive green wristbands distributed across the two boroughs. The concept was developed by young people and youth workers and has seen Spelthorne and Woking youth councils join forces for the first time.
