The foreword begins with the sentence: "This book is for everyone out there who still wants to change the world", and my sense is that most of us do.
The book offers both a political justification and practical manual for transformative social change through practice. At first glance the table of contents might appear to provide the usual "academic" divide between theory and practice in youth and community development work, but on further reading offers so much more.
Through a sensitive and critical analysis of the historical development and current diversity of contexts in which youth and community workers participate, the emphasis is on providing explanations for and signs by which we can recognise our own alienation from, and collusion with, the dominant political power. This provides a scenario that will be familiar to other professionals as well.
