PC Alan Hibbins, Youth crime reduction officer, Kent Police

1 min read Youth Justice
I'm one of three youth crime reduction officers covering the West Kent district. We have responsibility for schools within our area, which for me is the Tunbridge Wells Police Station.

My role is to prevent young people from committing crime and to reduce the number of young people who become victims of crime. The police treat a young person as anyone up to and including the age of 17. I look at issues relating to youth crime within West Kent, which involves identifying crime trends, making recommendations for enforcement and delivering educational packages within schools to reduce crime and the fear of crime.

I have been a PC for almost 15 years with 12 of those in neighbourhood policing and the past seven as a youth crime reduction officer. A large proportion of neighbourhood work is youth-related and I have a real interest in young people and youth crime. The majority of young people spend most of their time at school and the role seemed the ideal way to interact with them.
