Access to green spaces plays a crucial role in youth development and wellbeing, yet 38% of people in Britain live more than a 15-minute walk from a green or blue space. This disparity hits urban areas especially hard, with children from the most deprived neighbourhoods being less likely to spend time outdoors compared with their more affluent peers. This lack of access, combined with rising climate anxiety among young people, means the need to empower young leaders to drive social and environmental change has never been more urgent.
To support young people from diverse communities in exploring leadership through social action, the Berkeley Foundation is funding a three-year pilot project by Groundwork London.
