Kirsty Wilmington, Development worker, Girls on the Move, Youth Scotland

I recently joined Girls on the Move, which is a project aimed at increasing the physical activity levels of girls and young women in Scotland. There are two strands to the programme, and part of my role is to try to bring them closer.

As a grant-giving body, we can award up to £2,000 to organisations that help further our aims. These have included the Macara Youth Group, aimed predominantly at young Muslim women in Dundee, and Mums on the Run, a group for young mothers in Paisley.

We also offer an award in dance and sport leadership through Sport Leaders, which is aimed at the young people who help these schemes to continue. In the past, the two strands haven't been well linked, but we find people who take part in groups that deliver activities for young women are often the best candidates for future leaders.
