An encounter with God saw Luke Brendling reassess his life and decide to focus on helping young people.

What were your ambitions when growing up? My dream was to be a professional footballer. I was taken into the youth set-up at Rushden and Diamonds. Later I played semi-professional for King's Lynn for two years.

But things changed? Football wasn't working out the way I hoped and I was mixing with a group who were involved with fighting and drug taking. One day I got invited to a church youth event. I didn't think it was really me but went along and got really inspired. I had an encounter with God that really transformed my life.

That's when you went to college? I knew I wanted to do something for young people. I knew of a Bible College in Australia and felt God wanted me to go there. So I went to Hillsong College in Sydney and got stuck in for two years. There was some theology but lots of practical stuff working with young people aged 14 to 17.
