
Whether it’s improved physical, social and mental wellbeing, opportunities to try new activities and enjoy new experiences, or the development of vital skills for education and employment, being physically active is key to developing children who are happy, healthy and ready to learn.
However, at present too many are missing out on the many benefits which come from being physically active. Less than half (48%) of all children are achieving the amount of physical activity recommended by the UK’s Chief Medical Officers.
We know some children and young people face greater barriers restricting their participation, with research by Activity Alliance finding children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) are less active than other children. Just one in four disabled children say they currently take part in sport at school.
