Hothousing Hackney youth

Opposite the playground in London Fields where we spend a good deal of time there is a building referred to by MediaChild as "the funny shaped building" or "the windmill". It is actually called Hothouse and is an arts studio type thing. We went along last week for an exhibition of work created by the local community after being leafleted in the park, and it was very interesting. Apparently local young people had been involved in tutoring other members of the community inhow to create silk screen print T-shirts, which sounds like a great idea - the young people get qualifications and presumably a boost in confidence and self-esteem, and other community members get to learn an art and mix with young people.
