
This cohort of A-level students were in Year 9 at the start of the pandemic, suffered significant disruption during lockdowns, and during their first GCSE year. Levels of absence have been high during their Year 11 period, and some students were impacted by the appalling RAAC crisis. They have also had to battle the cost of living and rising mental health problems.
These problems are felt particularly keenly by the thousands of young people we support at the Sutton Trust, who come from low-income backgrounds and schools with low rates of progression to higher education. And yet, they blow me away with their formidable resilience, ambition and determination.
