Project: Trust for Developing Communities Hospital Youth Work

Purpose: To support young people who attend A&E and reduce future risks

Funding: £100,000 over three years from February 2022 from Sussex Violence Reduction Partnership and Rockinghorse children’s charity – the fundraising arm of the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Brighton

Background: When young people arrive in A&E it can be a turning point and a chance to provide life-changing information and advice. Consultants at the Royal Alexandra Children’s Hospital in Brighton saw the need for extra support for young people attending the emergency department, including those arriving with suspicious injuries, substance use and other social concerns. The hope was that by providing specialist support at this pivotal moment, it would reduce the risk of young people needing emergency care again.
