Extra – Support for Families

PURPOSE

To help anyone caring for children in the Tendring district meet the challenges of parenting

FUNDING

A range of funders including The National Lottery and Essex Community Foundation. The charity costs around £170,000 per year to run

BACKGROUND

The village of Jaywick on the Essex coast is the most deprived neighbourhood in England, according to the government’s Indices of Deprivation. The village, developed from a settlement of small, detached chalets founded in 1928, was never intended for full-time occupation. Today’s residents face challenges including poor housing, a lack of employment opportunities, and low skill levels with 55 per cent of residents of working age holding no formal qualifications.
