Project One Extreme to the Other
Funding The project was kick-started with funding from the Pears Foundation, Association of Greater Manchester Authorities, Arts Council England, Oldham Council and central government. In 2008, GW Theatre Company secured a three-year grant of £200,000 from the Preventing Violent Extremism Fund
Purpose To tackle and challenge political, religious and racial extremism
Background Towards the end of 2007, Greater Manchester-based GW Theatre Company started work on a play about extremism. One Extreme to the Other, by award-winning playwright Mike Harris was developed against the backdrop of the London bombings and other atrocities, explains creative director Dave Jones. "These issues were there before, but stuff like the London bombings and what happened in Spain and America took it all off at a wide tangent," he says. "We wanted to do something that young people could relate to, that brought the issues closer to home."
