Behind the Inspection Rating: Centre beats closure to prosper

After months on the edge of closure, the Jonathan Page Playcentre in Aylesbury has gone on to achieve a 'good' rating in its latest inspection.

Last December the Jonathan Page Playcentre looked doomed. Aylesbury Vale District Council had deemed it "financially unviable" and earmarked it for closure.

"It was a very worrying time," recalls play leader Rebecca Murphy.

For months the centre lived on the edge of closure, an experience the team got through thanks to support from parents and each other.

"The parents gave us lots and lots of support. They set up their own parents group to help us, came to the council meetings and things like that," says Murphy.

"It was also about us being very open and honest with each other about our feelings, our worries and what is happening to us."
