More than 100 delegates attended the Preventing “lost learning” through increasing attendance and reducing exclusions conference on Wednesday 12 February at London's Hallam Conference Centre.

The conference was co-chaired by CYP Now editor Derren Hayes and TCES chief executive Thomas Keaney, who founded the social enterprise 25 years ago.

Delegates, who included head teachers, special educational needs and disabilities co-ordinators, and local authority inclusion teams, heard from experts specialising in working with children who are excluded or struggling to engage with learning. Here is a summary of some of the key issues discussed on the day.

The executive chair of the Centre for Young Lives, Baroness Anne Longfield opened proceedings by summarising changes in government policy to prioritise inclusive education over the use of punitive measures like exclusions.
