Two-year evaluation of young adult probation hub pilot highlights desire for specialist support tailored to neurodivergent needs
More than 600 young people have received support at the Y2A Hub

A specialist probation hub designed to support the distinct needs of young adult offenders in east London could be used as a blueprint for services to better support 18- to 25-year-olds, according to an extensive academic evaluation.

According to recent figures from the Ministry of Justice, young adults make up 21% of the total probation caseload coupled with “relatively high rates” of reoffending across the age group – 30% for 18 to 20, and 24% for 21 to 24.

Numerous studies highlight a high prevalence of neurodivergent conditions among young people in the criminal justice system as well as a higher likelihood of having experienced one or more adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) while growing up.
