A recent survey by the Carers Trust revealed how life for young carers has got tougher over the past year because of the cost-of-living crisis.
The trust's survey findings, detailed in its Being a young carer is not a choice report, show most young carers have seen rising costs detrimentally affect them and their family, and is an issue they constantly worry about (see graphics).
This comes at a time when most young carers have seen their caring responsibilities increase – half of respondents spent 20 to 49 hours a week caring – with this having a negative impact on their mental health, ability to participate in education and economic wellbeing.
