
A survey, by the organisation, has revealed that four in 10 kinship carers are skipping meals and using food banks due to a lack of government support, with existing struggles exacerbated by the cost-of-living crisis.
It shows that 45 per cent of carers have had to give up jobs to care for their kinship children, with 58 per cent borrowing money, using short term loans and credit cards.
Wendy Turner, kinship carer to two of her grandchildren said: “We were struggling before, but things have got much worse with the cost-of-living crisis. Our energy bills have doubled, and the petrol I need to drive the children to school.
