Gail Hunter (left), who was the first carer to be recruited to the scheme, is now providing a home for 19-year-old Gemma Jones. "She settled in very well with the rest of the family," said Hunter. "Helping young people to become independent is extremely rewarding." The scheme is managed by the Hull Young People's Support Service.

- Modern artist Tracey Emin and the head of a primary school are at loggerheads. Four years ago, the artist worked with a class of eight-year-olds to create a patchwork quilt. Very nice it is too, and not at all rude. Recently, Ecclesbourne Primary in Islington, north London, floated the idea of auctioning the piece for 35,000 to fund an arts unit. No way, says the Madonna of contemporary conceptual art. She refuses to authenticate it as her own work, thus lowering the potential sale price. And anyway, she wants it back. The press have been considering the rights and wrongs of this. Is Ms Emin trying to have it both ways? Is the school being prudent or avariciously materialistic?
