News in brief: Caretaker refuses to sign Criminal Records Bureau forms

A caretaker of a church in Stratford-upon-Avon is among members refusing to sign Criminal Records Bureau forms because they have no direct contact with children in performing their duties. But its diocese, Coventry, requires all clergy, paid and voluntary staff to complete forms. The dispute comes days after a survey highlighted the "dangerously low" levels of safeguards in some churches. See analysis, p12.
