What is it? The 5x60 project is a healthy living initiative. Welsh pupils are taught how to write, star in and produce short films to promote sports and activities. It is part of the Welsh Assembly's work to achieve their target of 90 per cent of secondary pupils doing 60 minutes of physical activity five times a week by 2020.

St Aloysius College, Islington, London

What are they doing? A group of 14 business and finance diploma students at St Aloysius College have set up an allotment and food growing business called "Delicious @ Aloysius" in their school grounds. They plan to sell the fresh produce to the school and the local community.

What are they doing? Havering Motorvations provides an alternative education programme for young people aged 13 to 17 who are either at risk, have special educational needs, physical or mental health problems or require alternative education for any other reason. The project helps more than 100 young people a year from Havering, Barking and Dagenham and Redbridge.

What are they doing? Rotherham Ready enterprise project works with pupils aged between four and 19 at primary and secondary schools in the local area. The scheme aims to help children and young people to develop enterprise skills and business acumen.

What did they do? Langdon Park Secondary School held a special event for pupils, their families and the local community in July. It was themed Health is Wealth and was put on with the help of School Home Support, a charity that was founded at the school 25 years ago.

What did they do? Porth County Community School devised an extracurricular programme called E3+ to encourage young people to take part in more physical activity. It provides young people with a choice of 52 free activities a week, including aqua aerobics, canoeing and quad biking.

A survey by the Department for Children, Schools and Families has found a high satisfaction rate among families that use children's centres. However, it revealed many weren't aware of the health services on offer. Children's centres should be an important vehicle for health services and there is plenty centres can do to ensure these are promoted to local health professionals and families.
