What did they do? Somerset County Council, in partnership with the School Food Trust (SFT), is conducting a pilot scheme that uses Twitter to tell parents what's on their child's school menu each day. The service is aimed at the parents of pupils from 88 schools in the area.

What did they do? The school opened a special memorial garden in memory of eight-year-old pupil Olivia Hodgson, who died suddenly from leukaemia. The design incorporated lots of colourful flowers and written messages from Olivia's classmates.

What did they do? Porth County Community School devised an extracurricular programme called E3+ to encourage young people to take part in more physical activity. It provides young people with a choice of 52 free activities a week, including aqua aerobics, canoeing and quad biking.

What did they do? Langdon Park Secondary School held a special event for pupils, their families and the local community in July. It was themed Health is Wealth and was put on with the help of School Home Support, a charity that was founded at the school 25 years ago.

What did it do? Lambeth Council ran a borough-wide competition to give pupils the chance to design their own menu for a healthy school meal. Pupils were asked to create a meat, fish or vegetarian main meal. They were expected to use fresh produce and each dish had to include a healthy portion of vegetables or salad and some sort of carbohydrate.

What did they do? Gifted and talented pupils from 15 primary schools in Camden took part in a filmmaking project, designed to stretch their abilities outside of the usual classroom environment. Students from two Camden secondary schools mentored the primary school pupils for the duration of the scheme.
