Fatty food: Children's crisp habits reveal shocking facts

Half the UK's children are "drinking" almost five litres of cooking oil every year as a result of their pack-a-day crisp habits, shocking statistics by the British Heart Foundation revealed last week.

In addition, almost one in five are consuming at least nine litres ayear - the result of eating two or more packets a day - the survey ofmore than 1,100 eight- to 15-year-olds revealed. The figures coincidewith the launch of the second phase of the foundation's Food4Thoughtcampaign to expose the hidden salt, fat and sugar lurking in commonfoods. Professor Peter Weissberg, the foundation's medical director,described daily unhealthy snacking as a "worrying habit".
