Local government leaders have warned that a strike called by the National Union of Teachers will damage pupils' exam results.
Ivan Ould, chair of the National Employers' Organisation for School Teachers, said: "Children so close to their exams will lose out on invaluable study time and parents will lose out as they are forced to take unnecessary holidays."
The strike is likely to force one in three schools to either close or partially close, with many shut to pupils.
The union is calling for an improving pay offer for its members, who have been offered a 2.45 per cent rise this year, followed by 2.3 per cent in 2009 and 2010.
