Social workers were not unfairly dismissed after Baby Peter's death, says tribunal

Two social workers who were sacked by Haringey council following the death of Baby Peter have lost their case against unfair dismissal.
Maria Ward and Gillian Christou claimed their failings in the case of Peter Connelly did not amount to gross misconduct and had argued that they were made scapegoats as a result of the media storm that followed the case.
But a tribunal ruled in favour of the authority, saying it had acted reasonably.
Haringey council dismissed Ward and Christou in April 2009 for gross misconduct.
