Shock tactics to combat knife crime

Young people found carrying knives could be made to visit stabbing victims in hospitals to show them the consequences of their actions.
The shock tactic proposals have been announced ahead of the government’s £100m youth crime action plan, which will be unveiled tomorrow.
Home Secretary Jacqui Smith said young people caught with knives would also be made to meet families of victims of knife crime and visit prisons to meet criminals convicted of knife crime.
She said: I am very keen that we make people face up to the consequences.
Liberal Democrat home affairs spokesman Chris Huhne has labelled the plans half baked and Conservative leader David Cameron last week called for anyone caught with a knife in public to be sent to prison.
