The Big Lottery fund has doled out 3.6 million pounds to children's play projects across England.

Grants have gone to projects in Devon, London, Northampton, Rutland, Slough and the Wirral among other areas.

In the Wirral, funding of more than £800,000 will create seven new play projects, including outreach sessions in local parks and open spaces. In total, 15,000 children will be able to take part in the initiative.

More than £300,000 has been given to Slough council to set up play areas for both toddlers and teenagers, ranging from gentle to challenging adventure facilities.

The money will also be used to create a play ranger post within the council to work with children and young people in Slough and promote the new play areas.

The latest and final round of funding has gone to 13 areas, bringing the total number of areas to get a share of the £124m Lottery cash for children's play up to 351.

Sanjay Dighe, chair of the Big Lottery Fund's England committee, said: "Our investment in the play sector will leave a lasting legacy for millions of children and young people."
