The Big Lottery Fund has handed Milton Keynes Play Association 250,000 to create a narrow boat play facility.
The boat will travel along the Milton Keynes area of the Grand Union Canal, which connects Birmingham and London, and will offer children access to play equipment and activities linked to canal life.
This will include learning about traditional crafts, canal wildlife and water safety. Activities will take place both on board and alongside the canal and its towpaths.
Andy Grout, executive director of Milton Keynes Play Association said: “The Grand Union canal is a main arterial route through the city, touching a diversity of communities and need. Beyond Milton Keynes we can deliver play opportunities to the rural areas from Bedfordshire in the south to Northampton in the north.”
Children in Milton Keynes are now being consulted about other activities they would like to see onboard and the name of the boat.
