#Chances4Children: Food boxes tackle child poverty

A youth organisation in west London has teamed up with a food aid initiative to provide everyday provisions to young people whose parents have lost work during the coronavirus pandemic.

Young Ealing Foundation’s food distribution project is working with Southall Community Alliance and the Tej Kohli Foundation to deliver boxes of food and educational materials to hundreds of families with children in the deprived part of west London.

The ‘YouCube’ boxes contain high quality foods and nutritious ingredients for a young person alongside hand-chosen treats and stimulating items such as books, recipes and craft kits. There is also an online community where 'YouCubers' can share videos.

By repackaging the goods in a box and delivering it - rather than handing out plastic bags at a food bank - the YouCubeBox initiative aims to reduce the stigma around receiving food aid. Eash box includes an inspiring message.
