The board is chaired by newly appointed children's minister Brendan Clarke-Smith.

Members include children’s commissioner for England Rachel de Souza, chief social worker Isabelle Trowler and president of the Association of Directors of Children’s Services (ADCS) Steve Crocker.

Also on the board are:

  • Jill Colbert OBE, chief executive of Sunderland Children’s Services Company

  • Sir Anthony Finkelstein CBE FREng, president of City, University of London.

  • Tom Riordan, chief executive of Leeds City Council

  • Amanda Spielman, Ofsted's chief inspector

The full board will also include three additional members with direct experience of the care system, to be appointed ahead of the first full meeting in the autumn, DfE said.

Care Review chair Josh MacAlister attended the first meeting of the board held today (21 July) and will “where relevant, attend board meetings and provide advice to government on translating the review into an action plan,” the department added.

Members of MacAlister’s Experts by Experience board also attended the initial meeting of the group.

According to the DfE website: "The board’s terms of reference and the first set of minutes will be published in due course."
