ACTION

A partnership between academics and the voluntary sector is using Contextual Safeguarding approaches to develop better responses to serious youth violence in Oldham.

Youth Now, a pilot scheme launched nearly two years ago by charitable trust Positive Steps, is being run with support from Contextual Safeguarding experts at the University of Bedfordshire.

It aims to establish local Contextual Safeguarding approaches to bring about sustained change in those communities affected by increasing levels of youth violence.

With Greater Manchester Police and Oldham Council as its key partners, funding for the project, due to end in March, was provided from the local authority’s community safety partnership.
