There is a lot to be said for working for yourself; a young person may find the idea that they are their own boss very appealing. They can decide what type of work to do, when and to what standard. If they are successful, the financial rewards can be great and the achievement is all their own.
However, there are a number of distinct disadvantages. There is often uncertainty about the future and about income. There are the long hours they will have to put in to become established and the added responsibility of administration and paper work. They may also be responsible for staff for the first time too.
