Youth Work: Soulbury pay scale increase accepted

Youth service managers have accepted a final offer from the Local Government Employers (LGE) that will raise the maximum salary managers can earn on the Soulbury pay scale.

The offer was part of a series of negotiations for youth officers working on the scale, which is for management level staff and recognises professional roles and qualifications. There are around 10,000 staff in England and Wales on the Soulbury pay scale.

The new scale sees an additional five points on the top end of the scale, which will translate to a further £6,000 a year.

Andrew Morris, staff side secretary to the Soulbury Committee, said: "The four unions expressed reluctance to accept the deal but felt it was the best that was going to be offered through negiotiations."

LGE is backdating the increase to 1 September, with staff receiving the update this month.
