Youth work practice: A question of ethics

6 mins read
Youth professionals face ethical dilemmas every day in which they have to juggle conflicting responsibilities and deal with potentially dangerous situations. Henrietta Bond asks a panel of experienced workers what they would do in four tricky situations.

RON DAVIES (RD) is youth officer, operations, at Cheshire Youth Service.

He has been in youth work for 36 years, in the voluntary and statutory sectors, beginning as a volunteer in the Methodist Church. He has travelled, and written about young people's issues in India and Argentina. As a Christian, his spirituality has been greatly affected by his experiences in India.

MASHUQ HUSSAIN (MH) is a youth worker employed by Edge End High School in Nelson, Lancashire. He previously worked at Pendle Youth and Community Service, and for a youth training scheme. He is also a sessional tutor on the youth and community course at the University of Bradford.
