Youth Work: Devon pioneers participation in action as scheme goesnational

1 min read Education Youth Work
A Devon scheme to get young people involved in their communities is to be trialled across England.

Youth participation organisation Young Devon has been running its Participation in Action scheme for seven years. The scheme aims to empower young people and help them to volunteer in their communities. To date more than 200 young people in Devon have taken part.

Unlike most other schemes, the project is accredited by curriculum development organisation Asdan. It received £185,353 from the Big Lottery Fund for a year-long programme in which it will be tested out in eight youth groups in other parts of England.

The project has two strands. The first is called Passport to Participation and gives an overview of youth participation to young people who have not taken part before.
