Youth Work: British Youth council welcomes announcement

The British Youth Council has welcomed an announcement by Gordon Brown that there will be a 3.8 per cent increase in the minimum wage for young people.

Cheshire County CouncilHowever, it has expressed its disappointment that the different pay rates for young people aged 16 to 17, 18 to 21 and 22 and above have not been abolished. The council is continuing to campaign for young people in the lower age groups to have equal status to their older colleagues and receive the same pay for the same work. www.byc.org.uk.
