Youth suicide hot spot gets attention

A Welsh Labour MP is to meet with young people, police, the Samaritans and health representatives in a bid to tackle the rising suicide rate among young men in her constituency.

Madeleine Moon, MP for Bridgend, has found the area has the highest suicide rate for young men in the UK. She has been working with young people to find out what they know about services available to them and is holding events to allow them to meet organisation representatives and ask questions.

Moon said: "One of the things that shocked me was how young people see the Samaritans. They don't see it as an organisation they would go to when they are feeling worried, unhappy or stressed - before the problem gets too big."
