Youth Services: Charity pushes for more youth clubs

Charity 4Children is calling for new youth centres in every community, and flexible working so parents can spend more time with their teenage children.

The charity also wants local young mayors to be elected and mobileintervention teams in deprived areas. It based its recommendations onthe interim findings of a survey of more than 7,000 teenagers acrossEngland.

The Make Space Youth Review says that society is letting young peopledown, leading to gangs, violence and fewer opportunities. The teenagerswere afraid for their safety and wanted support.

Launching the report, broadcaster and political campaigner Oona Kingsaid that violence and crime costs billions of pounds and teenagers mustbe involved in their communities.

Simon Antrobus, chief executive officer of Clubs for Young People, added: "Community-based clubs transform the lives of young peopleUK-wide."
