Youth services: Adults want more activities for young

Ninety-two per cent of adults questioned for the poll felt that more diversionary activities should be provided for young people. Eighty-seven per cent of the 1,000 people surveyed said sporting activities were a good way of keeping young people out of trouble.

The charity also produced a report, entitled No Ball Games, to accompany the poll, which said the no playing culture in disadvantaged areas is one of the causes for young people misbehaving in their community.

Darran Bowles, football development manager for the north of England at the trust, said: "I think there is a perception that there is a lack of facilities for young people, but the reality is that a lot of young people don't know what is already available for them. Getting people to know about what's on offer is a big problem for a lot of voluntary organisations."
