Leading figures in the youth sector have put aside their differences to form an expert group in anticipation of potential cuts to youth work.

The National Council for Voluntary Youth Services (NCVYS) has developed the Youth Work Sector Expert Group in partnership with the National Youth Agency (NYA) and the Confederation of Heads of Young People's Services (Chyps).

It has been established to give the sector a more pro-active role in lobbying government and leading debates over workforce issues.

Heather Stevens, director of programme delivery at the NYA, whose chief executive is Fiona Blacke, admitted that the sector's key bodies have not always seen eye to eye. But she said: "There has been an alignment of the planets against the current political backdrop".
