Although Respect for Youth is affiliated to the national Respect Party, it will only operate in Tower Hamlets.
Aysha Ali, a youth participation officer and party member, said: "A high proportion of young people in Tower Hamlets supported the Respect Party during the general election, and although there is already a national youth arm in Respect for Students, this doesn't include non-students and disadvantaged young people." Respect for Youth will be aimed at 14- to 20-year-olds, and about 100 young people are expected to join. Ali said Respect for Youth will then set up a committee of young people to work out its priorities.
